Nozzle Overheating
Excessive heat buildup in the cutting nozzle causing thermal damage, oxidation, and unstable cutting performance.


- Nozzle Tip Discoloration: Blue or brown oxidation discoloration at the nozzle tip indicating excessive thermal exposure during cutting operations.
- Nozzle Orifice Deformation: Round orifice becomes oval or irregular due to thermal stress, compromising gas flow symmetry and cut quality.
- Gas Flow Disruption: Inconsistent gas delivery due to thermal expansion of nozzle components, causing unpredictable cut quality.
- Heat Affected Zone: Excessive heat spreading beyond the cut line, indicating poor heat dissipation through the nozzle assembly.
Prolonged Contact Mode
Extended piercing time or slow cutting speeds cause excessive heat accumulation in the nozzle that exceeds its cooling capacity.
Insufficient Gas Cooling
Gas flow rate too low to provide adequate convective cooling of the nozzle assembly during continuous cutting operations.
Nozzle Material Degradation
Repeated thermal cycling degrades the copper alloy, reducing its heat dissipation efficiency over time.
Misaligned Beam
Beam clipping the nozzle edge causes direct energy absorption by the nozzle material and rapid localized heating.

Engineering Tip: Install a thermocouple on the nozzle holder and set an interlock at 150°C. If nozzle temperature exceeds this threshold during cutting, automatically trigger a 5-second dwell with high gas flow (25 L/min) to cool the assembly. This can extend nozzle life by up to 3x in high-duty-cycle applications.
