What Are Robot Gripper Fingers?

Gripper fingers (also called gripper jaws) are the components on a pneumatic or electric parallel gripper that directly contact and hold the workpiece during automated handling operations. They are wear components by design — subject to mechanical friction, clamping force cycles, and environmental contamination over millions of operating cycles.

When fingers wear, the symptoms are consistent across brands:

  • Workpiece slipping or position deviation
  • Visible surface damage or marking on parts
  • Inconsistent pick-and-place accuracy
  • Increased cycle time due to re-gripping
